Runners Don't forget the Beach Blast Olympic Events this Saturday, September 23, at 8:30EST!
Because of the success of The Beach Blast Sprint Event in the Spring the past two years, the Gulf County Tourist Development Council and the Mexico Beach Community Development Council are coming together to present the Fall Beach Blast Olympic Triathlon, for those interested in biking, running and swimming, and a Duathlon for those who just want to bike and run. This event will be surrounded by activities and will conclude with an award's dinner and ceremony following the event.
The "Olympic" distances will include a .9 mile swim, a 25-mile bike ride and a 10K run for the triathletes. For the duathletes, there will be a5K run, a 25-mile bike ride, and a 10K run, all going through interesting areas of Gulf County.
For full-time and part-time residents and visitors who are not participating in the event, please watch for the athletes on the morning of the event. They will be running and/or biking along Highway 98 and crossing the highway after their swim, as well as running through certain neighborhoods, so keep an eye out! Highway 98 traffic will be interrupted during the event for short stints in order to allow athletes to cross from the beach to Beacon Hill Park. If everyone will pay attention, then everyone can remain safe and have a great time!
Volunteers are needed for the event to assist in passing out water, directing athletes, and a host of other jobs. Be a part of this great event and earn community service hours in the process!
